Mimi Thiero Named Post-Gazette Girls Basketball Player of the Year
Quaker Valley’s Mimi Thiero has been named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Girls Basketball Player of the Year, adding another major honor to a senior season for the ages.
Thiero led the WPIAL in scoring at 28.6 points per game while pulling down 15.7 rebounds, blocking 4.4 shots, and recording 3.4 steals per game. She hit 59 three-pointers and posted double-doubles in 26 of her 27 games, including a school-record 44 points against Montour.
Over four years at Quaker Valley, Thiero finished with 2,021 points, 1,340 rebounds, and 384 blocked shots. She received more than 50 Division I scholarship offers before committing to Maryland, where head coach Brenda Frese sees a future that extends well beyond college basketball.
As Coach Ken Johns put it, there were moments this season where the coaching staff just looked at each other and asked if they really just saw what they saw.
Congratulations, Mimi. One of the best to ever wear a Quaker Valley jersey.
